Ole Miss running back Quinshon Judkins was the lone Mississippi player to be named to the Associated Press preseason All-American team on Monday.
Judkins, going into his second year with the Rebels, was named to the first team after rushing for a school-record 1,567 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2022. The Pike Road, Ala., native averaged 5.7 yards per carry and finished as the Southeastern Conference’s top rusher.
The nod from the AP is the latest award for Judkins who has already been named to the Maxwell, Walter Camp, and Doak Walker Award watch lists in addition to earning preseason All-American honors from CBS Sports, Lindy’s, Athlon, and Phil Steele, among other outlets.
Former Jackson State star Travis Hunter was also named to the AP’s first team as an all-purpose player. Hunter is going into his first season with the Colorado Buffaloes, joining former JSU head coach Deion Sanders in Boulder.
In 2022 with the Tigers, Hunter played in eight games and finished with 20 tackles, 10 pass breakups, two interceptions, and a fumble recovery. On offense, he hauled in 18 receptions for 190 yards and four touchdowns.
