The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) will be holding clinics for high school football players who are hurt during Friday night games throughout the regular season.
Student-athletes injured in a Friday night football game during the regular high school season can be brought to UMMC’s Physicians Pavilion in Jackson for care.
With sports medicine specialists and radiological services on site, the Friday Night injury clinic is open to care for high school athletes whose injuries are not extreme enough for a trip to the emergency room.
The clinic is open to athletes from all schools who need help with any football-related injuries.
Conditions including bumps, bruises, broken bones; ligament, ACL, and tendon tears; and suspected concussions will be treated on-site.
For an athlete’s long-term safety and health, medical experts say it’s critical to have suspected concussions examined and treated immediately. Even if nothing more serious is detected, a prompt medical examination can bring peace of mind to the student and his or her family.
The clinic will be open on Fridays, from 9:30 to 11:30 p.m., or until the last student is seen. Walk-ins are welcome, but those planning to visit the clinic are encouraged to call ahead at (601) 815-4721.
While most private schools in the state have begun their seasons, the Mississippi High School Activities Association’s official kickoff is Thursday, Aug. 24.
