Mississippi’s unemployment rate has reached yet another record low.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), July’s 3.0 percent unemployment rate marks the fifth consecutive month that Mississippi set a new record low.
The numbers indicate that 38,000 Mississippians remain unemployed as the state continues to promote economic growth and job creation.
“For five months in a row, Mississippi has made history with our vibrant economy,” Governor Tate Reeves said. “More Mississippians are working, they’re making higher wages, and they’re better able to provide for their families. At the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about.”
The study conducted by the BLS shows that Mississippi joined six other states in seeing lower unemployment rates in the month of July. Seven states saw hikes in rates, while 40 states remained stable.
As of Friday, the national unemployment rate stands at 3.5 percent. 21 states, including Mississippi, have lower unemployment rates than the national average.
The Magnolia State began seeing steep declines in rates in March when the state reached 3.5 percent unemployed. In April, Mississippi’s rate dropped to 3.4 percent. The state declined to 3.2 percent in May, and 3.1 percent in June before hitting the current record-low of 3 percent flat.
