Belhaven University has announced Andrew Gipson as the school’s next head baseball coach.
Gipson, a former Belhaven player and assistant coach, spent the last seven seasons with Southeastern Louisiana University. During his time in Hammond, he served in a variety of positions, including associate head coach, recruiting coordinator, and pitching coach.
“I am excited to welcome Andrew back to campus as our head baseball coach. As a former Belhaven baseball player and assistant coach, he knows us well,” Belhaven athletics director Scott Little said. “Our student-athletes will enjoy playing for him as his drive, knowledge of the game, and commitment to Belhaven’s university mission fuel our pursuit of championships.”
As a player with the Blazers, Gipson was part of three conference championships, four NAIA regional appearances, and one NAIA World Series appearance. The Hill Denson prodigy is confident he can bring a championship pedigree back to Jackson.
“This is an extremely special place to me. Having spent time here as both a player and a coach, I know that the expectations are high,” Gipson said. “We are going to assemble a roster year in and year out that will compete for championships. Our goal is to make Belhaven the household name of Division III baseball.”
Gipson takes over a program that finished this past season with a 21-18 overall record but has yet to make the NCAA Division III Tournament since transitioning from the NAIA in 2014.
