Tropical Depression 3 could become hurricane by Wednesday

One of two tropical waves in the Atlantic Ocean has developed into a tropical depression, making it the third depression to form since the start of hurricane season on June 1.

The tropical depression’s track shows it traveling into the eastern Caribbean and south of Puerto Rico, but the National Hurricane Center (NHC) has stated that changes to its path may occur as the storm advances through the Atlantic Ocean.

According to the NHC, the depression is expected to develop into Tropical Storm Bret on Monday afternoon before growing into a hurricane on Wednesday.

The NHC has not released if the southeastern U.S. will be impacted at this time.

Both tropical depressions — which meteorologists are tracking off the coast of Africa — are currently moving through the far eastern Atlantic basin.
