GAUTIER, MISS– Gautier Police have released a letter penned by Shannon Lamb, the man who they say shot and killed a Gautier woman, a Delta State professor, and them himself. (Photo by Amanda McCoy, Sun Herald)
The letter reads:
“I am so very sorry. I wish I could take it back. I loved Amy, and she is the only person who ever loved me.”
The letter was signed by Shannon Lamb, and refers to Amy Prentiss, who was found dead in her home in Gautier Monday morning. Lamb had called Gautier police about that murder around 10am on Monday.
Here is the audio from that call:
Moments later, police say he walked into Professor Ethan Schmidt’s office at Delta State University in Cleveland, nearly five hours from Gautier, and shot him dead.
Lamb led state and local police agencies on a manhunt until late Monday night. Lamb shot himself not long after police attempted to pull him over.
Faculty and staff, students, alumni, and the community are coming together at Delta State University at 7pm tonight to hold a candlelight vigil, honoring Dr. Ethan Schmidt and his contribution to the community.
