Authorities are searching for Joseph Spring in Gluckstadt after receiving reports of a white male matching the escaped inmate’s description.
According to police, a stolen black Honda that was connected to Spring crashed in a wooded area on Gluckstadt Road Friday morning. Shortly after, both the driver and occupant(s) exited the vehicle on foot, prompting officers to begin a search of the Gluckstadt industrial area.
Spring was reportedly last seen on Wednesday afternoon in the area of Hwy 18 and Midway Rd. in Raymond, with police calling off the search after over five hours. Agencies deployed several K9s and one helicopter to aid in the search for Spring, but the inmate was not discovered.
According to Hinds County officials, Spring and 31-year-old Michael Lewis were said to have been missing during Monday morning’s headcount at the Raymond Detention Center. A breach was later found at the prison’s fence line.
Lewis was captured in the area several hours later and is now facing additional charges after previously being booked on DUI and marijuana possession charges.
Spring, who escaped alongside Lewis through the facility’s air duct, had been at the Raymond Detention Center since November for violation of parole and burglary charges. He has been described as being approximately 5’8″ tall at 155 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. A large tattoo can also be seen across his neck.
Anyone with information regarding Spring’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office at (601) 352-1521.
