William Carey’s baseball team is once again heading to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) World Series.
The No. 8 Crusaders (47-9) secured their spot in Lewiston, Idaho on Thursday with a 27-4 win over Ave Maria (36-18) in the Hattiesburg Bracket of the NAIA Opening Round. It will be William Carey’s fourth world series appearance in school history and second since 2017.

Led by home runs from Jake Lycette and Preston Ratliff, William Carey had 11 players with at least one base hit against the Gyrenes. LHP Dario Herrera (9-0) stayed perfect on the season with two runs allowed on six innings pitched.
The Crusaders, who set a program record for most victories in a season with Thursday’s win, will vie for the national title when the 2023 Avista NAIA World Series begins on May 26 at Lewis-Clark State College.
