With six games remaining in the regular season, No. 25 Southern Miss is on the verge of bringing postseason baseball back to Hattiesburg.
According to Kendall Rogers of D1Baseball, the Golden Eagles, who are on a 10-game winning streak, need to keep doing what they’ve been doing if they want to be selected as one of 16 teams hosting a regional come June.
“I really like their resume at this point,” Rogers explained on SportsTalk Mississippi. “I think if they win the final two weekends and play really well in the conference tournament, I think they’re a really good shot to be a regional host.”
While Southern Miss has spent most of the season as a projected two-seed for the 2023 Field of 64, Rogers said that the Golden Eagles are trending up at the right time.
“When you look at their winning streak, when you look at the fact that they’re tied atop of the Sun Belt with Coastal Carolina…they’re not quite a top 16 team yet, but they are right there. I mean they basically, in my opinion, control their own destiny.”
The Golden Eagles will travel to Louisiana Monroe this weekend before wrapping up the regular season next weekend at home against Louisiana. The Sun Belt Championship begins May 23 in Montgomery.
