Cooper Tire and Rubber Company’s Tupelo location has announced that production is expected to resume in June after being damaged by a tornado last month.
The tire manufacturer’s parent company, Goodyear, says the plant, which employs nearly 2,000 people, will begin the initial production process this summer and expects to phase into full-scale manufacturing sometime in the fall.
“We currently expect to be able to restart and begin ramping up production at the Tupelo tire manufacturing facility by the beginning of June 2023 with full ramp-up expected in the third quarter of 2023,” Goodyear stated.
On April 1, the heavy storm and tornado left the Cooper Tire plant missing a portion of its roof, forcing owners to shut down one of Tupelo’s most employed businesses.
Prior to announcing plans to reopen, Goodyear released inventory from the plant to customers.
