As candidates continue to file the necessary paperwork to run for president, Mississippi rapper Afroman announced that he will be seeking the nation’s highest office come 2024.
Afroman, a Hattiesburg native whose birthname is Joseph Edgar Foreman, originally informed fans of his decision during a December concert in Missouri, dubbing it as the “20-20-FRO” election. On Tuesday, he made the announcement official by filing paperwork with the Federal Elections Commission.
The “Because I Got High” rapper will be running as an Independent. If elected, Afroman said he would work to legalize marijuana recreationally across the nation.
“Can I make the biggest announcement I’ve ever made in my life? I’m running for president for 20-20-FRO,” Afroman said last winter. “We gonna get legal weed everywhere, man.”
Afroman is the second rapper in recent years to seek the office of president, with Kanye West making a halfhearted run in 2020.
