A Port Gibson man has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for murdering his brother.

42-year-old Marc Hyder took a plea deal sentence for the murder of his brother, 44-year-old Harold Hyder. The murder took place on March 5 at a residence on Walnut Street.

The two were involved in a heated disagreement and at one point, Marc Hyder produced a .380 handgun and shot Harold Hyder in the head.

Marc Hyder was taken into custody at the scene of the shooting. Harold Hyder was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson where he succumbed to his injuries.

“We do not have any room for crime in our community. Making an arrest is just a relief, but getting a sentence is justice being served and closure for Harold’s family and friends,” Port Gibson Police Chief Russell Dorsey said.
