Another Mississippi native has advanced to the next round of NBC’s The Voice after capturing the attention of one coach during Monday night’s episode.
24-year-old Walker Wilson, who was raised in Raymond, turned the chair of country music singer Blake Shelton during his performance of “Hurricane” by Band of Heathens.
“You have a grit to what you do,” Shelton stated. “You’re on the right track with that sound and this is going to be a lot of fun to do.”
Shelton compared the singer’s voice to Waylon Jennings, adding that he would like to hear Wilson perform songs such as Shelton’s own “Ol’ Red” and “God’s Country.”
“Just in the vein of what you just did, I could hear all kinds of options,” Shelton explained. “This is going to be a lot of fun.”
In 2021, Wilson moved to Nashville, Tenn., to pursue his passion for music. Since then, Wilson has been taking singing gigs in his free time and getting to know other local artists in the Nashville area.
You can watch Wilson advance in the competition by tuning into The Voice Mondays at 8/7c and Tuesdays at 9/8c.
