COPIAH COUNTY, Miss.–A wreck early Wednesday killed two adults and two children who may have been traveling from New Orleans to Missouri to see family there. Copiah County deputies said the family’s car hit a tree and burned up about 3:15 a.m.
Volunteer firefighters from Crystal Springs and the nearby Hopewell rushed to the scene on I-55 to try to help, but the damage was too much.
Jeanelle Lemieux, 22, of New Orleans, the driver; Devell Gethers, 19, the front seat passenger, also of New Orleans; along with Bradley Lemieux, 4 months and Riley Lemieux, 18 months, all died.
Copiah County Sheriff Harold Jones said the vehicle appeared to have been rented out of Texas.
Investigators think the driver may have fallen asleep before leaving the road and hitting the tree.
All four bodies were at the state crime lab for autopsies.
