The Ole Miss men’s basketball team kept their season alive Wednesday night, defeating South Carolina 67-61 in the first round of the SEC Tournament.
The 13-seed Rebels, who were 6.5-point favorites going into the contest, took a 30-29 lead into halftime over the 12-seed Gamecocks. They maintained their lead for the majority of the second half before nearly losing it within the final 30 seconds of the game.
Thanks to a clutch jumper from sophomore James White to close out the game, Ole Miss was able to take home an opening round SEC Tournament victory for the first time since 2021. Overall, the Rebels shot 42.4 percent from the field behind impressive performances from Amaree Abram (20 points, 3 rebounds) and Jaemyn Brakefield (16 points, 7 rebounds).
Ole Miss will face off against 5-seed Tennessee in the second round of the tournament at 2 p.m. CT Thursday.
