WASHINGTON– The Mississippi couple charged with trying to join ISIS had an initial appearance before the magistrate this morning.
Jaelyn Delshaun Young, 20, and Muhammad Oda Dakhlalla, 22, appeared this morning for in front of U.S. Magistrate Judge S. Allan Alexander of the Northern District of Mississippi. Young and Dakhlalla were denied bond and they’re in the custody of the U.S. Marshal Service.
Young and Dakhlalla were arrested at the Golden Triangle Airport, where they had planned to leave the country under the guise of a honeymoon. They planned to head through Amsterdam, to Turkey, and then Syria where they would join forces with ISIS.
The charge in the complaint carries a maximum of potential penalty of 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
Young and Dakhalla did not know they were speaking with the FBI when they were detailing plans to join ISIS online.
