Itawamba Community College has hired Travis Macon as the school’s new head football coach.
“It’s an exciting time for me and my family,” Macon said. “Everyone has made us feel at home, and we’re ready to get started and look forward to this new journey we’re on.”
Macon, 44, served the last three seasons as head coach at Coahoma Community College. The Tigers went from a program that had only five wins since 2013 to winning 11 games and earning national rankings under Macon’s leadership.
“This was a home run,” ICC Athletic Director Dr. Chad Chase said. “I’m excited to bring Coach Macon on campus, and he’s going to bring some assistants who bring a lot of fire and intensity to the program as well.”
Prior to his time at CCC, Macon worked for five seasons as the defensive line coach at Northwest Mississippi Community College after beginning his coaching career at his alma mater, Northeast Mississippi Community College. While at NWCC, Macon’s defensive line unit broke the school record for both sacks and tackles-for-loss while leading one of the top defenses in the nation.
As a player, Macon transferred to Ole Miss after his time at NEMCC. He played offensive tackle for the Rebels, helping lead the 2000 team to an appearance in the Music City Bowl.
