A Mississippi man has pleaded guilty to threatening members of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
According to court documents, Robert Wiser Bates, 39, of Ridgeland, called the CDC headquarters in Atlanta, Ga. on multiple occasions, leaving threatening voicemails for CDC Director Rochelle Walensky.
When agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation interviewed Bates, he openly admitted to making the phone calls as well as saying that he would kill outgoing National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci.
Bates will be sentenced on March 7, 2023. He faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
