WASHINGTON, D.C.– A threat to the United States isn’t just about the Middle East. Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS) and Representative Bennie Thompson (D-MS) say there are issues that start here at home.
Committee on Homeland Security Ranking Member Bennie Thompson says, “a long-standing concern has been the prospect of an attack being carried on out U.S. soil by an individual inspired by violent extremist propaganda generated by a foreign or domestic group.”
Thompson says ISIL dispatches thousands of internet messages to recruit people to join them, even people in the US. Thompson says another form of domestic terrorism is fueled by race issues, such as the shooting in South Carolina.
Senator Roger Wicker says that the nuclear deal between the U.S. and Iran could turn into more trouble from the country.
“I remain skeptical that the Iranian regime will cooperate with international inspectors and live up to its obligations,” says Wicker, “History has taught us that Iran does not make good on its word, going to great lengths to cover up and deceive the world about its nuclear ambitions and ballistic capabilities.”
