JACKSON, Miss.–A high pressure system over Texas is turning up the heat in the Magnolia State. There’s a heat advisory for most of Mississippi, and there’s little relief expected from afternoon storms for most of the week.
The heat advisory does not include southeast Mississippi. Everywhere else, get ready for heat indices at 105 to 110 degrees, with actual temps in the mid to upper 90s.
“The humidity is staying up. We’re not drying out,” said National Weather Service Meteorologist Greg Garrett. “So as the temperature creeps up and the temperature stays the same, heat indices will creep up as well.”
Garrett said the best chance for rain is in southeast Mississippi, where there could be some isolated storms.
“Looks like it’s gonna last through a good chunk of this week and through the weekend. Hopefully by the first of next week, we’ll start seeing some relief from it.”
Garrett said you should take plenty of breaks, stay hydrated and stay out of the sun, if at all possible.
