U.S. District Judge Kristi Haskins Johnson has officially been sworn into office, making her the first female judge for the U.S. District Court in the Southern District of Mississippi.

Last week, a formal investiture ceremony was held by the U.S. District Court to commemorate the historic event. Mississippi Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith expressed her support for Johnson’s new position in office on social media following the ceremony.

Johnson previously served as Mississippi’s solicitor general in 2020 and assistant U.S. attorney for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the six years prior.

Six months after being nominated by former President Donald Trump for the position of U.S. District Judge, Johnson was confirmed with a 53-43 vote by the U.S. Senate on November 17, 2020.
