JACKSON, Miss.–July 1 means it’s just three days until the celebration of Independence Day. In Mississippi, it means independence from inspections of your car or truck, thanks to a law passed in this year’s legislative session, eliminating the $5 inspection sticker.
There are other laws going into effect today that will have an impact on your daily life.
You will now not need a concealed-carry permit to carry a gun in your bag, purse or briefcase.
You can now be fined $25 for texting and driving. That means texting, emailing or using social media while operating a vehicle. You may still make calls while driving.
If you work for the Miss. Dept. of Corrections, you’ll be out from under civil service protection for one year. That makes it easier for Corrections to hire or fire you, so they can make changes.
