JACKSON, Miss.–Strong storms developed in Mississippi overnight and were expected to be a threat through the day Tuesday. The storms are coming with a weather system that was expected to move out of Mississippi by Tuesday evening.
“Over the weekend we had a cold front come through and dry out the air, but we’ve got our moisture back in place,” said Mike Edmunston, with the National Weather Service. “We’ve already seen some development.”
He said the threat was mainly for central and south Mississippi.
“The threat of these storms appears to be damaging winds, in excess of 60 mph, also as the day goes on the potential for quarter-size hail and locally heavy rain.”
Edmunston said you can also expect some frequent lightening with the storms.
