For the third time in 10 years, MSU’s State Singers will be performing at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
MSU’s State Singers, the premiere choral-vocal ensemble at Mississippi State University, will be part of a joint concert at the world-renowned stage on Saturday, March 19 at 7 p.m.
“Carnegie Hall is easily the most prestigious concert hall in the world, and for our students to be invited to perform is outstanding,” Mississippi State Choral Activities Director Gary Packwood said. “It’s an exciting time for the university’s choral members.”
Other choirs included in the recital are from McPherson College in Kansas and Wagner College in New York state. The choirs will sing “Serenade to Music” by Ralph Vaughn Williams and “Te Deum” by Mark Hayes.
Williams’ piece includes lyrics from Shakespeare’s “The Merchant of Venice,” while Hayes’ includes text from the Protestant Episcopal Church’s “Book of Common Prayer.”
MSU’s State Singers previously performed at Carnegie Hall in 2012 and 2019. They have also toured in Spain, France, Austria and the Czech Republic, and in Washington D.C. at The White House.
