At least 12 state corrections officers are under investigation regarding the escape of Michael “Pretty Boy Floyd” Wilson from the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility (CMCF) in Rankin County on February 12.
The officers in question have not been reported to have been fired yet but multiple are currently on leave.
Wilson is notorious for escaping prisons, as he has escaped from a county jail in 2001 and a state prison in Leakesville in 2018.
MDOC Commissioner Burl Cain attributed Wilson’s opportunity to escape to the lowering of his risk classification, which allowed him to leave the maximum-security area and flee the facility.
Cain recently spoke at a press conference regarding Wilson’s escape: “We won’t make those mistakes again because we have taken corrective action, and we’re shocked and appalled that he got away without us knowing so many times.”
Once caught, Wilson was returned to CMCF and awaited his transfer to high-security facility Walnut Grove. He’s serving two life sentences for murders in Gulfport and Biloxi.
