TUPELO, Miss.–A Saturday evening thunderstorm in Tupelo is responsible for snapping a limb that blew down and killed 10-year-old Lane Rodgers, of Byhalia, while he was in town for a baseball tournament.
The storm came up about 6 p.m. and the limb fell when the kids were evacuating the field.
It happened at Ballard Park, where the tournament was immediately canceled. Rodgers was taken to North Miss. Medical Center, where he died.
Many people were at the tournament and witnessed the incident.
A vigil and prayer service were held at the park Sunday by the community and people were still in town for the tournament.
