Hockey fans in Mississippi did it. A professional hockey team is returning full-time to Biloxi.

In front of a sold-out crowd at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum on Thursday, the Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL) announced they will be expanding to Biloxi.

During the month of December, the FPHL hosted three neutral site games at the coliseum, virtually serving as a tryout for Biloxi. Fans rose to the challenge as the average attendance at each game was 6,721. Here’s the breakdown:

  • December 2 – 4,230
  • December 17 – 7,288 (FPHL record)
  • December 30 – 8,646 (FPHL record)

On Thursday, the Columbus River Dragons defeated the Port Huron Prowlers, who wore alternate Mississippi Sea Wolves jerseys, by a score of 2-1.

While tickets for the 2022 season are not yet for sale, the Mississippi Coast Coliseum’s board of commissioners plans to make a further announcement in mid-February. To keep up with the latest on the Mississippi Sea Wolves, like them on Facebook.
