WASHINGTON, D.C.–The official DC swearing-in for Mississippi’s newest congressman was Tuesday on the U.S. House floor, by Speaker John Boehner. Mississippi’s senators joined the House in welcoming Kelly to Washington.
“I congratulate Trent Kelly on his swearing-in as United States Representative of the First Congressional District of Mississippi. I look forward to working with him for our State,” said Sen. Thad Cochran (R).
Cochran and U.S. Senator Roger Wicker went to the House of Representatives to join other members of the Mississippi congressional delegation in welcoming Kelly, 49, to the 114th Congress. Prior to his service in Congress, Kelly was the District Attorney for Lee, Pontotoc, Alcorn, Monroe, Itawamba, Prentiss and Tishomingo counties.
“I welcome Rep. Trent Kelly to Mississippi’s congressional delegation. As a military veteran and former district attorney, Trent brings valuable experience to his new role. I have heard from countless people – both in our nation’s capital and in Mississippi – who believe that he will be a great representative for north Mississippi,” said Sen. Roger Wicker.
“I am confident that Trent shares my good friend Alan Nunnelee’s commitment to improving the lives of Mississippians and upholding the first district’s tradition of strong conservative leadership.”
