House Speaker Philip Gunn wants Mississippians to know that lawmakers are doing everything they can to put a stop to enforcement of President Biden’s vaccine mandates. “We very much strongly believe and recognize the right of people not to get vaccinated. This is America. One of the greatest rights you have is to make decisions for yourself,” he told SuperTalk Mississippi Thursday.
He isn’t alone. Mississippi Senator Roger Wicker is co-sponsoring legislation that would block the Biden Administration from using emergency powers to impose a vaccine mandate. He’s also pushing a bill that would ensure any troops that are separated from the military because of vaccine refusal are given an honorable discharge.

Mississippi Agriculture and Commerce Commissioner Andy Gipson also believes the mandate is a huge overreach. “In Mississippi we’ve got a half-a-million people we know of who had the virus and recovered and have natural immunity, but nobody wants to take that into account. So they’re ignoring science, it’s ludicrous. I tell ya, this is the fight for freedom in our day,” Gipson stated.
Gipson recently wrote an op-ed about the potential impact of the mandate, saying he believes if the Administration doesn’t reverse course, it’ll lead to a commerce crisis in America.
