JACKSON, Miss.–Storms blew through central Mississippi overnight and brought high winds and rain. There were no reports of flooding, but a canopy got blown off of an Exxon station in Gluckstadt early Tuesday and a couple of trees were reported downed in Hinds County.
Meanwhile, rainfall was expected to continue through Tuesday morning and afternoon.
“The heaviest rainfall has been along and just to the northwest of the Natchez Trace where three to four inches have fallen,” said Mike Edmunston, meteorologist with the National Weather Service. “We haven’t issued any flash flood watches, as leading up to this event, we’ve been pretty dry.”
Edmuston said that severe weather is not a huge possibility for Tuesday because the rain already falling will keep the atmosphere fairly stable. But, that might not be the same story for Wednesday.

“Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday evening at this point looks like the western portions of the area, west of 55, or even more refined, the Delta region, has a potential for seeing a strong to severe storm.”
Edmunston said the weather may get drier Thursday and Friday, with some scattered storms.
“There’s a low pressure system that’ll be approaching over the weekend, so we think the rain chances will go back up Saturday night, into Sunday and even Monday.”
