The suspect accused of shooting and injuring an FBI agent in the capital city is now in custody.
38-year-old Demario Lamar Cotton was arrested by FBI Special Agents in Jackson this morning without incident. Cotton allegedly shot an agent who was assisting the Jackson PD during a traffic stop before speeding away from the scene on Saturday night.
The agent was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center and has since been released.
Cotton is charged with one count of assaulting, resisting, or impeding a federal law enforcement officer, who was engaged in the performance of official duties, by use of a deadly weapon and one count of using, carrying, discharging a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, that is assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers.
The FBI says that additional details will be released at a later date.
