There is extensive flooding due to heavy rainfall in the Mississippi Delta, and it’s spreading across the northern part of our state. Chuck Espy–the Mayor of Clarksdale–told SuperTalk Mississippi he’s thankful no homes in his city have flooded.
“Clarksdale is not hit as hard, but we are having massive flooding in our area and we have pumps out,” he said during an interview on The Gallo Radio Show. He says the large issue for residents is the psychological affect. “”We’ve gone through this twice within the last ten years. So you have a lot of homeowners that are in fear right now. It’s our job with public works, the police department, the fire department; we’re assuring residents that we’re on standby and if we have to evacuate we will.”
The National Weather Service says more than five inches of rain fell Tuesday night up until noon Wednesday on top of two inches that fell early Tuesday. Three inches was reported Wednesday night.
