Alcohol delivery will officially be legalized in Mississippi starting on July 1st.
Governor Tate Reeves has signed a bill passed by the Legislature which allows the delivery of beer, wine and liquor to Mississippians over the age of 21. Customers will be required to verify their age and show ID when the product is delivered.
Language in the bill specifies that deliveries must be within 30 miles of the retailer’s location and cannot be made within dry counties or cities.
Package stores must obtain a delivery permit and will be able to send employees (21+) on delivery runs or use independent contractors. Delivery drivers will have to go through training that addresses “topics such as identifying underage persons, intoxicated persons, and fake or altered identification.” Any alcohol will be returned to the store if the customer appears to be intoxicated or cannot verify their age.
Deliveries will be prohibited before 10:00 a.m. and after 10:00 p.m. as well as on Sundays and Christmas Day.
