GULFPORT, Miss. — Gulfport police are investigating what they believe to be Harrison County’s first spice related murder.
Anessia Daniels was killed April 18 after at least seven bullets were fired outside her home. Daniels was hit twice and her son, once.
During a preliminary hearing this week, police said they believed Daniels’ son was the actual target and the shooting was retaliation for money he owed for 100 grams of Spice. Her son, who’s name was not made public, is believed to have gotten the Spice, valued up to $300, from Karlos Oatis but left without paying. Detectives said cellphone records showed the son, was sent, before the shooting, threatening text messages demanding payment.
Oatis is one of three men arrested in the case. Charges against two of them have been sent to a grand jury.
