Mississippi State’s starting pitching was once again a problem, and this time the Bulldog bullpen wasn’t able to stem the tide, as Kent State took a 9-5 victory on Saturday at Dudy Noble, setting up a rubber game in Starkville on Sunday.

For the second game in a row, MSU’s starter was unable to deliver, as Eric Cerantola was pulled after three innings that saw him give up 4 runs on 5 hits with 4 walks. The Bulldogs went through a variety of relievers, with six more pitchers taking the hill in the losing effort. The bats were equally ineffective, as Flashes starter Luke Albright pitched 6.2 solid innings, holding the Diamond Dawgs to one run on five hits. Jack Zimmerman pitched the final 10 outs for the visitors, running into a bit of trouble in the ninth before finally slamming the door to get the win for his squad.
State falls to 7-3 on the season, they’ll look to bounce back and take the series tomorrow, first pitch scheduled for noon. The Bulldogs will put true freshman Jackson Fristoe on the mound for his third start of the season.
