JACKSON, Miss– Habitat for Humanity Mississippi Capital Area and Lowe’s are teaming up for National Women Build Week May 2nd through May 10th.
National Women Build Week is a weeklong event created by Habitat for Humanity that challenges women to dedicate one day to building affordable housing. The week also spotlights the homeownership challenges faced by women.
“Everyone deserves safe, decent housing, but not everyone can turn to the regular housing market,” said Maura Phillips, chair of Women Build for Habitat for Humanity Mississippi Capital Area. “For many families, those doors are closed. Habitat for Humanity, however, provides an opportunity for 100% home ownership through an interest free mortgage — a leg up to a better life and brighter future.”
Lowe’s has donated two million dollars to this year’s Women Build Week and the company has offered workshops and training for construction.
Saturday, May 9th, two teams of women will work together to raise the trusses and walls of the latest Habitat for Humanity house in the Jackson metro area.
Jill Beneke, co-chair, says Women Build helps women aspiring to be homeowners in more ways that just building a house.
“We understand the importance of raising children in a decent environment,” says Beneke, “This is an opportunity for us to help another woman. We should do it!”
