PARCHMAN, Miss.–If you have people you know on the inside, you may be able to visit them pretty soon. The lockdowns that were on for contraband and bad behavior are off for now, said the Miss. Dept. of Corrections.
The lockdown had inmates without privileges after some shakedowns at the Central Miss. Correctional Facility, Parchman and in four privately-run prisons: Marshall County Correctional Facility, East Mississippi Correctional Facility, Walnut Grove Correctional Facility and Wilkinson County Correctional Facility.
In searches of cells, correctional officers found shanks, cell phones, drugs and a host of other items the prisoners are not supposed to have. Inmates lost visitation and commissary privileges, starting April 21.
“Facilities will be locked down again whenever we experience similar behavior regarding the introduction of contraband into MDOC institutions and assaults on staff,” said Corrections Commissioner Marshall Fisher.
He said that assaults on guards by inmates, and assaults on other inmates will not be tolerated, and those who do it will be prosecuted.
If you bring inmates something they shouldn’t have, it could also mean years for you behind the walls.
