Mississippi State certainly could not have expect its moribund offense to suddenly turn around and become potent against against #2 Alabama, but they also could not have anticipated their worst performance of the season. State was only able to rack up 200 yards and could not find the end zone for the second time this year in a 41-0 shellacking at the hands of the Crimson Tide.

MSU started KJ Costello, but he was ineffective then left the game with an apparent head injury. Will Rogers took over in the second quarter, completing 24-37 for 147 yards and two interceptions, the second of which was taken back for a touchdown, the fourth one against the Bulldogs this year.

Defensively, the Bulldogs were harrassed all night by DeVonta Smith, as the Crimson Tide’s All-American hauled in 11 passes for 203 yards and four touchdowns. Mac Jones might have taken the lead in the Heisman race with Trevor Lawrence out, going 24-31 for 291 yards and those four scores.

State falls to 1-4 on the season, and will face Vanderbilt at home next Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 PM on the SEC Network.
