LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss.–How Johnson Swoope, 74, of Crawford, ended up dead in a catfish pond in rural Lowndes County is still a mystery and authorities are working to find out how the man and his truck ended up there.
Swoope’s body was found Wednesday afternoon after the catfish farmer called deputies. When they got there, they found Swoope and his Ford Ranger pickup in the pond.
Swoope had not been seen since Sunday.
An autopsy was expected to be done Thursday at the state crime lab, but Coroner Greg Merchant told media that it looked like an accident.
Police are working to put together just what happened between Sunday and Wednesday afternoon.
