JACKSON, Miss.- As part of a nationwide protest for higher pay, fast food workers around the state rallied together at the McDonald’s on Highway 80 in Jackson to push for an increase in minimum wage.
One man was arrested during the rally after cops said he was trespassing.
“He was arrested because he came inside the McDonald’s lobby and the manager asked him to leave and I think he refused to leave so he was arrested for trespassing.” Jackson police Assistant Chief Allen White said, “McDonald’s will be signing the affidavit on that charge.”
The rally was part of a nationwide initiative calling for the minimum wage to be raised from $7.25 an hour to $15 an hour.
Protestor Catherine Robinson said, “Making minimum wage at $7.25 can’t pay for day care, can’t pay for groceries, can’t pay for bills, so we’re fighting here today to get the workers $15 an hour.”
