JACKSON, Miss.- Two men are impersonating Jackson police officers.
Jackson Police Department says the men were driving a white late model Chevy Tahoe with license plate number HSD-028 and are responsible for at least one robbery Thursday.
The men should be considered armed and dangerous. One of the men was dressed in police tactical gear, including a bullet-proof vest, and carrying a high-powered rifle. They are doing fake traffic stops using a blue light in their car, and then robbing the people, say police.
The Jackson Police Department says they do not and will not conduct traffic stops in unmarked vehicles.
If a suspicious vehicle that is not marked or identified as a police vehicle attempts to stop you, proceed to a safe, well lit area and call police dispatch to report this activity.
Police say you should make sure to stay on the phone with a dispatcher to allow verification of the traffic stop.
If there are any questions relating to the stop, the Jackson Police Department will send a marked patrol vehicle and uniformed officer to investigate the reporting.
Officers recovered the Tahoe Friday in the 500 block of Daniel Circle, Officer Colendula Green said.
Investigators have identified Ferezon Burton, 31, as one of the suspects, Green said. Burton is wanted for armed robbery.
Anyone with information about Burton’s whereabouts, or the identity of the second man in the case should call Jackson Police Department at 601-960-1234 or 601-355-TIPS. (8477)
