Borsig Backs Out of Commissioner of Higher Learning Position to Stay at MUW

JACKSON, Miss.- Jim Borsig has decided to decline his offer to be the state’s commissioner of higher education and remain as the president of Mississippi University for Women.

A news release from the College Board says Borsig made the announcement Thursday during a speech at MUW.

The College Board had chosen Borsig in February to succeed Hank Bounds as leader of the state’s system of eight public universities. Bounds is leaving the position to become the president of the University of Nebraska.

Borsig has been acting commissioner the past few weeks and was scheduled to officially become commissioner April 15.

He says he will remain as acting commissioner while the College Board seeks someone for the job.
