Lucien Smith, chairman of the Mississippi GOP, announced the party’s rerouted convention plans for 2020 during a recent appearance on The JT Show.
“We are on track now for a state convention,” he said. “We are now going to have county conventions on July 11, and we’re going to have state convention on August 1.”
Smith also mentioned that August 1 is a set in stone date.
“August 1 is a rain or shine day for us.”
Originally, county conventions were scheduled to take place at the tail end of April, and the state convention was set to be May 15 & 16. The altered dates will nevertheless provide the party enough time to be prepared for the national convention currently scheduled for late August.
