JACKSON, Miss.- The 2015 legislative session has come to an end, almost. The Mississippi Senate finished Wednesday, but the House will be back at the Capitol one more day, Thursday.
The House will deal with two bills that are currently pending. One would tighten sanctions for schools found to be cheating on tests. The other would make it easier for the corrections commissioner to hire and fire employers.
During the session, lawmakers wrote a nearly $6.3 billion budget and approved borrowing $450 million for a variety of projects, including $24.5 million for an aquarium in Gulfport.
Republican leaders pushed for tax cuts, but House Democrats opposed arguing the state needs to hold onto money for education, transportation and other services.
