BROOKHAVEN, Miss.–The wreck that killed Shaquan Richardson and Javontae Dickey on Oct. 14, shook up the Brookhaven community and grieved fellow students at Brookhaven High School. Now Chas Acy, 18, has been indicted by the Lincoln County grand jury, charged with having drugs in his system the night the wreck happened.
Acy was driving a car that hit another car that Dickey and Richardson were in, said police. Richardson died at the scene and Dickey died at the hospital. Now Atty. Gen. Jim Hood says Acy may have been under the influence of marijuana or Xanax, or maybe both.
Acy, whose full name is Charles Acy, III, will stand trial on two counts of aggravated DUI. If he’s convicted, he could get as much as 50 years in prison, two to 25 years on each count.
Acy is still in jail on a $1 million bond.
The case is being prosecuted by Special Assistant Attorney General Jim Giddy of the Public Integrity Unit.
Both Richardson and Dickey were football players and had both just left a school softball game.
