Mississippi State was looking for a complete game on Thursday night after a couple of slow starts to the 2019-20 season, and the Bulldogs were able to get exactly that, holding Louisiana-Monroe to 35% shooting in a 62-45 win that saw the Bulldogs lead throughout. State was led by the front court, as Reggie Perry registered his second straight double double, and Robert Woodard chipped in 13 points and 7 boards. The Bulldogs needed that boost, as Tyson Carter was limited to 6 points on 2-9 shooting, while his backcourt mates Iverson Molinar and DJ Stewart combined for 20 points. MSU moves to 3-0 on the young season, and extends their non-conference winning streak to 25 straight games.

Reggie Perry had a quiet double-double Friday night against Sam Houston State, but the sophomore All-SEC candidate did not want to wait on Thursday. Perry had 10 points and 9 boards as the teams went into the locker room, and finished up with a strong 14-14 effort. Perry played with the kind of effort throughout that had only shown up in spots the prior two contests, not lingering on the perimeter and instead attacking the glass.

Robert Woodard was very effective on Thursday, hitting 50% from the field for a 13 point, 7 rebound effort. Woodard has been able to work the inside-outside game very well in the early going of the year, driving to the bucket with relative ease, but spotting up and hitting from deep when he is open. Both Bulldog sophomores are going to have to deliver these kind of efforts on a night in, night out basis if they want to see their team make a deeper run in March than their freshman campaign.

Mississippi State will take on New Orleans Sunday afternoon at 2 PM from the Humphrey Coliseum. The Privateers are 1-2 on the season, coming off losses to Butler and SMU after an opening win over Spring Hill College.
