Ole Miss inside linebacker Mohamed Sanogo will miss the remainder of the 2019 season with a broken ankle, a source confirmed to SuperTalk Mississippi.

Sanogo injured his right ankle on a punt cover after the Rebels’ first drive of the game. The loss is a potentially catastrophic one for an Ole Miss defense that has shown signs of improvement through the first two games. The junior led the team in tackles a year ago and is the most established linebacker on the roster.
“It’s heartbreaking,” head coach Matt Luke said after Saturday’s win. “I don’t have the exact, but he’s going to be out for a while. It’s an ankle. When we get the x-rays back and all that, we’ll know. But I really liked the team coming off the sidelines and saying ‘Hey, we’re going to play for you.’ My heart goes out to him because he’s put a lot into this. He’s one of our leaders.”
The Rebels played a number of guys in place of Sanogo. Sophomore Jacques Jones led the team in tackles with nine. Senior Donta Evans initially replaced Sanogo on the defense’s first series after Sanogo was carted off the field. Willie Hibbler saw his number of snaps increase in the game as well.
Sanogo is slated to have surgery early next week.
