All three candidates working to grab the GOP nomination in the race for Mississippi governor faced off Tuesday night in their only debate ahead of the August 6 primary. Former state Supreme Court Justice Bill Waller Jr. and state Rep. Robert Foster have debated twice before.
During the course of the debate, perceived frontrunner Mississippi Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves differed with Foster and Waller Jr over Medicaid expansion, taxes including a proposed gas tax to improve the state’s infrastructure.
The candidates also addressed the state flag, gender equality, teacher pay raises, medical marijuana and more.
If no candidate wins a majority in the Aug. 6 primaries, the parties will have runoffs Aug. 27. The general election is Nov. 5.
