TUNICA, Miss.–Even though Mississippi had a lot of rain last week, the water from snow and rain up north is what is expected to bring the Mississippi River to near flood stage next week. National Weather Service hydrologists are already monitoring.
“This is not a major flood event,” said Meteorologist Marlene Mickelson. “Anybody with property, camps, homes along the river, should keep abreast of the flood stages and river stages.”
Mickelson said there are just a few places in Mississippi that will be affected.
THE ENTIRE INTERVIEW
“One of them, Tunica, and that’s expected to go just about two or three ft. above flood stage at 41 ft. and all of this is gonna be happening next week. It’s gonna take that long for water from up north to filter down here.”
She said the danger risks are quite low, but anybody with concerns on the river should be aware.
Mickelson also said rain expected in Mississippi later this week should not affect the big river stages.
