JACKSON, Miss.–A flood watch has been posted for the western half of Mississippi and the potential for river and flash flooding is expected to increase through Thursday evening and into Friday as more heavy rain approaches.
“This is in preparation for some heavier rainfall that we’re anticipating to start later on today in the afternoon,” said Meteorologist Chad Entremont with the National Weather Service.
“The heaviest is gonna occur tonight and into Friday and that’s the main time frame we’re gonna see the potential for several inches of rain and maybe some flooding as well.”
Though Mississippi has seen cloudy skies and some drenching rain all this week, the rain will end eventually and the weekend and next week look much drier, said Entremont.
He said the heavy rain will end starting from west to east Friday afternoon, though chances will continue through Saturday for most of the state.
